DESCRIPTION:Are you looking to make your community building more energy efficient\, reduce running costs or explore opportunities for renewable energy? \nJoin us for a free online session exploring the support available to community organisations in West Lothian. \nThe session will introduce the support available through the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) and how it can help organisations take practical steps towards energy efficiency and community energy projects. \nThe CARES Community Energy Launchpad team will cover the advice\, funding and development support currently available\, including the CARES Community Buildings Fund\, which can provide grant funding to eligible community organisations to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings. \nWe’ll also hear from the West Lothian Climate Action Network (WLCAN) about CommonWatt – an opportunity for community organisations interested in generating their own renewable energy\, including exploring solar PV installations on community buildings. \nThis session is particularly relevant to community groups\, charities\, places of worship\, sports clubs and organisations involved in managing community buildings or assets. \nWhether you’re just starting to explore what might be possible or already have an energy project in mind\, come along to find out what support and opportunities are available. \nBook your free place on Eventbrite

DESCRIPTION:Across Scotland\, a sudden surge in data centre proposals has left communities with many questions. This information session is designed to unpack the global and national trends behind data centres: what they are\, why Scotland’s central belt is being targeted\, and how they operate. It will look at the global data boom and introduce the concept of “waste heat reuse” – specifically\, how modern data centres can be integrated to benefit local communities (such as heating local swimming pools or public buildings). \nUsing the nearby proposed Apatura Freeport AI Energy Campus at West Calder as a real-world case study\, we will look at the balance between economic opportunities (such as local investment\, high-paying jobs\, and community heat-export networks) and environmental concerns (including power grid strain\, water use\, and backup generator noise). With speakers giving different perspectives.  \nThis session is designed to be neutral and educational; our goal is to empower local residents with the factual knowledge and planning timelines they need to form their own opinions and engage directly with the decision-making process. \nOpen invite\, but email jocelyn@wlcan.scot if more information needed.
