DESCRIPTION:Community Celebration Event \nWalk to School Week culminates in a community celebration event in Blaeberry Hill Park on the afternoon of Friday 22nd May. The event is part of Our Future Whitburn\, a year-long programme of community events focused on active travel\, climate action and healthy living\, and we’d love your pupils and families to come along. \nProgramme: \n\nChildren’s Fun Run along Junior Parkrun route 1.30-1.45pm\nWest Lothian Bike Library rides including e-bikes\nRangers Service with Scottish outdoor code games\nCouncil Biodiversity Department with insect survey\nWoodland Trust Scotland – woodland themed games\nCycling UK – stall\nXcite – stall\nScottish Fire and Rescue –  stall and freebies\nWalk to School Week trophy presentation!

SUMMARY:National Emergency Briefing Film
DESCRIPTION:This film provides a valuable and timely opportunity to discuss the important matter of the climate and nature crisis within our own local community\, especially given the current media coverage of the wildfires in Britain and Europe that have devastated nature\, wildlife\, homes and livelihoods. The film is hosted by Chris Packham and presents the findings of experts on various aspects of the climate emergency that the public know very little about. The film is an attempt to address this knowledge gap\, provide expert\, evidence-based information on the matter\, and create an opportunity for discussion of what the climate emergency means for us here in Scotland\, and what can be done about it. \nThe Area Commander of the West Lothian Fire Service will be attending the screening\, as will a local councillor. The film will be presented by Mike Harrower from Greenpeace\, Edinburgh and he will lead an informal discussion after the screening.

SUMMARY:Family ECO Fun Day
DESCRIPTION:Join in for a day of fun with community organisations from across West Lothian\, at Whitburn Community Education Centre on 26 September. Meet groups working to improve nature near you\, learn from experts how to cut your home fuel bills\, or where locally you can learn to turn things into new clothes and other items\, and how to grow your own food. This event is being organised by Eco Familiez\, part of Kidzeco\, and WLCAN will have apple tasting of local varieties among other activities. Full programme coming soon.
