The School Bank West Lothian

A volunteer-led group aiming to improve the lives of children in families in West Lothian experiencing financial hardship by providing them with a brand new school uniform, other clothing and equipment required for the school day (our packs are topped up with good quality second-hand items). Our packs are distributed by referral from organisations working with families such as Social Workers, The Advice Shop and Schools. We collect and re-distribute uniform, jackets and once worn items such as Halloween/Christmas outfits/football boots through school/community hubs/groups to promote inclusion for all young people. Our service benefits young people and their families: gives an immediate boost for children and families who lead extremely difficult lives, increases their self-esteem and confidence, reduces the risk of bullying is reduced and improves school attendance. Knowing that your child is adequately clothed and not having to worry about them being unhappy, bullied or not wanting to go to school because of lack of uniform, greatly reduces anxiety for parents and carers and also relieves a burden for families who are struggling financially.
